Contemporary Management of
Cardiovascular Disease in Women

February 9, 2019

Christina Economides, MD, MM, FSCAI

Los Angeles, CA

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women in the US and accounts for more deaths each year than all of the other causes combined. In women of racial or ethnic minority the rates of death are even higher. One in three women will die of some form of heart or vascular disease. However, only one-third of women are aware of this statistic and only half would call 911 if they had symptoms of a heart attack. Compared to men, women are less likely to receive standard of care of treatment for chest pain, less likely to be referred to a cardiologist, and less likely to be admitted to the hospital. It is our mission to educate healthcare providers about the risk of heart disease in women and empower them to be advocates for women's cardiovascular health.

This educational symposium will define risk factors for cardiovascular disease in women and how they differ from men, address lifestyle changes for modifiable risk factors, including diet modification and management of obesity, and address the impact of cardiovascular disease in women worldwide. Discussions will include women-specific cardiovascular risk assessment in the setting of pregnancy and management of pregnancy complicated by high-risk cardiovascular diseases, conditions primarily affecting women, such as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Dysautonomia, and advances in the management of dyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation and open artery myocardial infarction. State of the art therapies for structural heart disease, with an emphasis on outcomes in women, will be included.

This symposium will educate healthcare providers on gender-specific approaches in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of women with a broad range of cardiovascular diseases.

This Live activity, 4th Annual Contemporary Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women, with a beginning date of February 9, 2019 is beeing reviewed for up to TBD Prescribed credit(s) by an accredited organization. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
